Elementary Education (E ED)E ED 2013. Children’s Literature. Acquaints the prospective elementary teacher with a wide range of children’s literature. Gives practice in reading, telling, and dramatizing children’s stories. On demand.
E ED 3002. Elementary Field Experience II. Prerequisites: E ED 3003, a minimum of one three-hour methods course, and admission to the Teacher Education Program. Consists of 48 to 60 clock hours of supervised assignments in the public school classroom, plus a class/seminar meeting one and one-half hours weekly. On demand.
E ED 3003. Elementary School Curriculum. Acquaints the individual with the organization of the elementary school curriculum and the process of guiding school life of elementary children. On demand.
E ED 3023. Economic Education in Elementary Social Studies. Prerequisites: E ED 3003. This methods course is designed to provide the basic economic concepts and principles necessary to emphasize economics throughout the elementary grades. On demand.
E ED 3043. Methods and Materials - Language Arts. Prerequisites: E ED 3003. Deals with principles, problems, and materials of teaching spelling, writing, and language (oral and written) in the elementary school. On demand.
E ED 3112. Observation-Participation in Elementary Kinesiology Programs. Corequisite: HKR 3703. Assisting the classroom teacher in the operation of the teaching-learning process. Offered – see advisor.
E ED 3703. Methods and Materials in Kinesiology for Elementary Schools. Prerequisites: Junior standing, acceptance into the Professional Teacher Education program, and satisfactory proficiency in the HKR 1113, and 1123 sequence for HKR majors or completion of four hours of PHED 1001-1491 for elementary education majors and consent of instructor. Opportunity for prospective teachers of kinesiology to develop teaching competence. Study, observation, discussion of what comprises a well-rounded elementary school kinesiology program. Techniques of directing group activities, developing units of instruction, lesson planning, class organization and management, learning teaching techniques, evaluating pupil progress, acquiring insight into the meaning of behavior, and skill in handling problem situations. HKR 3073 – cross referenced course for non-teacher education majors. Fall, spring semesters.
E ED 4006. Student Teaching in the Elementary School I. Prerequisites: Senior standing and consent of College of Education dean. See also student teaching requirements. Students may be assigned to any one of the elementary grades. Students will enroll in the Student Teaching Block of 15 hours to include EDUC 4003. Offered – see advisor.
E ED 4053. Methods and Materials in Early Childhood Education. Prerequisite: Satisfactory completion of S ED 3003. Recommended procedures for teaching middle school pupils with special emphasis on the specific needs of the preadolescent child. A course designed for secondary education students who wish to meet middle school licensure requirements. On demand.
E ED 4063. Practicum Early Childhood Education I. Co-requisite: E ED 4053. A program of participation in the kindergarten with a focus on the individual child. Children will be studied in terms of their individual physical, intellectual, and social needs. Strategies for meeting these needs will be planned, initiated, and evaluated. On demand.
E ED 4083. Basic Skills Reading. Present word attack and comprehension skills necessary for reading instruction. On demand.
E ED 4093. Teaching Reading in the Elementary School. Prerequisite: E ED 3003. A comprehensive view of the methods and materials used in a reading program in the public schools. Emphasis is given to teaching techniques and instructional planning. On demand.

E ED 4153. Early Childhood Curriculum. Prerequisites: E ED 3003, E ED 4053, and E ED 4063. The development of programs of instruction based on the principles of child growth and development, learning theory, and community needs. Curricula will be studied, analyzed, and developed in terms of local needs. On demand.
E ED 4163. Practicum Early Childhood Education II. Corequisite: E ED 4153. A practicum in the kindergarten designed to provide for the study of the child as a participant in the social or group process. Teaching strategies will be planned to provide group instruction.
